Recent algorithm updates have targeted Spam, Reviews, and (un)helpful content. Then there are the Core Updates that affect all SERPs. In the past, there have been Medic, YMYL, Panda, and Penguin updates.

There have been 37 significant Google algorithm updates in the past four years. The frequency of updates has increased from just four in 2020 to 10 in 2022. The March 2024 Core Update changed the search landscape.

2024 Google Updates (7)

There are seven announced Google algorithm updates so far in 2024.

  1. November 2024 Core Update: Announced on November 11, 2024. Expected to take two weeks to roll out.
  2. August 2024 Core Update: Announced on August 15, 2024. Expected to take one month to roll out.
  3. June 2024 Spam Update: June 20, 2024
  4. AI Overviews: May 14, 2024
  5. May 2024 Site Reputation Abuse: May 6, 2024.
  6. March 2024 Core Update: Announced on March 5, 2024. This core update addressed unhelpful content, content spam, and manipulative SEO practices (like exploiting expired domains for affiliate marketing).

2023 Google Updates (8)

There were 8 announced Google algorithm updates in 2023.

  1. November 2023 Core Update: Announced on November 2, 2023.
  2. October 2023 Core Update: October 5-19, 2023.

  4. September 2023 Helpful Content Update: September 14-28, 2023
